Elementary School

Frequently-Asked Questions about the Elementary Experience

What is your class size?  The maximum class size is 20 students.

How does your curriculum compare to that of the public school standards?  We meet and exceed state standards for each subject area and a Biblical worldview is integrated into each course.  Additionally, the study of the Bible is taught as a course.

What enhances the learning experience at the elementary school level at Grove Christian School?  Each student will have the opportunity to participate in field trips that are extensions of our classroom experience and are included in tuition.  Technology is integrated meaningfully into the instruction of the classroom as well as the communication with parents.  Each student engages weekly in a variety of specialty classes including art, music, world language study, and culinary arts.  Additionally, the students engage in physical activity through P.E. and/or recess each day.  The elementary students engage in service learning through updating the school sign, raising and lowering the school flag, and leading the whole school in pledges at the beginning of every chapel.

How would you describe the teachers at Grove Christian School? Each teacher on the elementary school team is a licensed teacher who has training and experience;  but, most importantly, each teacher is committed to partnering with parents to minister to the class as a whole and to each individual child. In addition to designing engaging lessons and meaningful assessments of learning, the elementary team works to support the needs of the whole child - spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically.  The elementary team works together to make sure each child is ready to progress effectively to the next grade level. The team meets each morning for devotions and prayer to spiritually prepare to ministering to the children.

What testing do you use to assess student learning?  In grades 1-5, we use the Terra Nova 3 assessments each spring to give us a measure of what students know and are able to do at their grade level in their subject areas.  In addition to the classroom assessments about the learning experiences, this assesssment gives us feedback on how our student learning at Grove compares to other students at other schools.

What extracurricular experiences do you have for elementary age students?  Elementary students can participate in our Little Falcons program, a sports program that offers developmental opportunities for our students and an opportunity to represent our school.  Additionally, students participate in the ACSI Art Show, the ACSI Choral Competition, the Math Olympics and the ACSI Spelling Bee.  New in 2017-18, we will be launching our first robotics program for Little Falcons.
